Positive and Negative Points of Biomass for Fuel

Biomass can be considered as the material made from the decay of living and non-living organisms. It includes waste material and dead parts of plants, animals, wood, and agricultural waste. It is of great advantage as it is a renewable source which is completely environment friendly. Biomass energy sources are those material used as a fuel. Biomass has been used as an alternative source of fuel and energy both.

Even at some locations where there is lack of such resource biomass is the prime source. Everyone agreed with this fact that everything exists in this world has positives and negatives points. Fuel From Biomass is not an exception in this regard. Below mentioned list of pros and cons of the biomass will make you up with both these points. Have a look:

Positive Points

    * Biomass as a fuel can be used to provide electricity for commercial, residential, industrial and agriculture use. It also decreases the requirement of fossil fuels for the generation of steam and heat.
    * It is always available better to say theoretically inexhaustible fuel source.
    * Fuels obtained from biomass are efficient, feasible, user and environment friendly.
    * The production of these fuels doesn’t emit any harmful radiations as they are smokeless.
    * It is a renewable resource.
    * Biomass fuel obtained from the agricultural waste serves as a value product to increase the productivity of crop and fertility of land.
    * It includes usage of waste material therefore reduces land pollution and water pollution also which is caused when this waste is dumped into seas.
    * Growing in the number of biomass crops increase the extent of oxygen and consumption of carbon dioxide by these plants.
    * Saves a lot of money which was earlier spends on importing the fuel from the foreign countries.
    * It is eco-friendly fuel.
    * It is much cheaper and reliable.
    * Increased in the number of Biomass Briquetting Project is contributing to the nation’s economy.

Disadvantages

    * The boilers needed to produce fuels require too much space for its installation.
    * Fuels need to keep dry and utmost care if it is to burn clean and efficiently.
    * The raw material or the particular plants require generating biomass as a fuel, are not readily available all the time. Secondly, harvesting and processing of these plants takes too much time and energy.
    * If burned directly can lead to air pollution and even global warming.
    * Agricultural is not available if the basic crop is not grown.
